1. Using an Olympus camera was a bit of a downgrade from what even a middle school-er might use these days. But that doesn't mean I couldn't find a good use for it. Using older grade equipment can be extremely useful when trying to get an aged effect, or perhaps "dirty" footage. That would take much more effort faking in a digital editor. I chose to not make my images clear, in focus, or even steady sometimes because that's just a losing battle. For point and shoot it was modestly easy to use, so for that I am thankful.
2. I chose to use what tools I had to fit the idea in my head. Admittedly that idea was influenced by tools as well. My weapons of choice, Apples Final Cut Pro, and After Effects. Really all the editing I had planned to do could be done in FCP, but now that I have the great gravy train that is After Effects its hard not to see the benefits of using it in place of FCP. After Effects can do a lot more then what I used it for on this project but what it does, it does well. The only grip I have is that using two editing software means a host of new possible problems that you need to think about ahead of time, so as to not horribly ruin your edits, or degrade the quality inadvertatly. Also I am newer to AF than FCP, but Im not that big an expert with FCP either. So my work time was a little longer then I had hoped, but it's a learning process.
